You are right...: There are several MRSA stains &amp; it is agreed that acquisition of SCCmec in methicillin-sensitive staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) gives rise to a number of genetically different MRSA lineages. 

Community acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) for instance differs from Hospital-Acquired MRSA (HA-MRSA) by molecular typing &amp; has more antibiotic options but is more aggressive than HA-MRSA.

MRSA: MRSA is methicillin resistant staph aureus. It is not as rare as it used to be. Due to over utilization of antibiotics, 
many harmless bugs became smarter and figured how to stay alive despite taking powerful antibiotics. The only way to know you may have it, is to be tested with a swab. If it's positive, the patient needs to be on a different antibiotic such as a sulfur compound. Be careful.

Complex: Cannot answer this simply. Mssa should be sensitive to all cephalosporins. Mrsa will be resistant to all. Have no idea what else you are asking.

i might have been exposed to a person with mrsa. is there a way to tell if i have contracted a strain of mrsa.  i had a pimple and was put on antibiotics and it healed. is there a way to test the healed area?

No: Its probable we are exposed to mrsa every day. Most of us do not develop the infection just being with a person who has an rsa infection does not mean you will also get it to. An open sore while touching an mrs infection is a risk, not just being together. If you would is all healed your good no testing require should you develop another infection it should be cultured to find the cause

Not quite: MRSA often takes up residence in your nose--it lives happily there without causing problems. So even if you take antibiotics to treat an infection elsewhere, it may not kill the MRSA in your nose. But nothing is forever! If you've had more than one MRSA infection, or it "runs in the family," you might be a candidate for *intranasal* antibiotics to try to get rid of it. Ask your doctor about it.

Depends...: ...On where you live. Some states publish reports on their state hospitals’ infection rates. (consumers union has a list of them at http://www.Consumersunion.Org/campaigns/stophospitalinfections/learn.Html) other states do not. If you can't find what you need at the cu website, call your state's dept. Of health and ask if they have the information.

Probably safe: If you're both on treatment, there is little chance of transmitting MRSA back and forth. Sharing a bed or having sex shouldn't make any difference. But if in doubt, check with both your doctors. Good luck!

Side effect of antib: It is probebely due to side effect of antibiotics given to you.You can take Prilosec or Prevacid over the counter or prescription nexium, (esomeprazole) or dexilent to help with your symptoms, if you still have these symptoms consult a gastroenterologist.

i m on the 13th antibiotic since jan 2012 my sinus infection continues to return. 3 different doctors- nobody has done a culture could this be mrsa?

Could be: See a specialist.  It is possible that you have mrsa, but more importantly, it is not normal to need to be on so many rounds of antibiotics for presumed sinusitis. You need to have a sinus culture and a ct to further evaluate, followed by directed treatment depending on the results of your scan. If it is clear and you continue to have sinus symptoms, i would consider allergy testing and treatment.
