More folate, (folic acid) calcium: Pnv have slightly different composition from regular multivitamins: they contain less vitamin a (potentially teratogenic in high doses), more folic acid, more iron and calcium.

Not best plan...: Some vitamins are not safe in pregnancy in high doses.   For this reason its best to avoid regular adult vitamins because the dose may be too high.  There are gummy prenatal vitamins if that is what you are able to hold down.   They are sold at places like CVS, Wallmart and Amazon.com.  Best wishes!

i've been nursing for over a year now. is it safe if i switch to regular multivitamins from prenatal vitamins?

Yes: Summer, the primary purpose of prenatal vitamins is to make sure that the baby has enough folate to assist neural development. Regular multivitamins should be fine now. Make sure your baby is getting the right supplementation, though. Human milk tends to be deficient in Vitamin D and Iron. Speak with your baby's doctor about the right supplements. Hope this helps!

: It is recommended that you take prenatal vitamins when trying to get pregnant. It would be good for you to establish a relation with an obstetrician for advice about conception, antenatal and prenatal care.

No diference: You may take either one. A prenatal vitamin is simply a multivitamin with the appropriate level for pregnant women. Vitamins are not related to your menstrual cycle.

should i continue taking my prenatal vitamins post birth? i was taking pregomega plus supplements which included 3 tablets: fish oil tablet, calcium and a multivitamin which had folic acid. or should i switch to normal multivitamin?

Use up the remainder: If a woman is in good health with good nutrition, the added vitamins from prenatal vitamins are not noticeable to her body. The Folic Acid in the prenatal vitamins does help decrease the chance of a certain type of serious birth defect (called a neural tube defect). If expecting to get pregnant again soon, she can stay on prenatal vitamins. Otherwise, she can use a regular multivitamin.

Maybe: There is no harm in taking them together; however, b vitamins are commonly nauseating.  Therefore, taking them together may increase the risk of nausea.  I would suggest taking them at different times to prevent nausea and to minimize a large peak of b vitamins.   Several smaller doses make the vitamin available throughout the day.
