Discomfort: Certainly a colon filled with hard stool can be uncomfortable, but not damaging.  Constipation prevention tips include lots of water, fiber in diet (whole grains, fruits and veggies); possibly a psyllium supplement; and DAILY exercise.  Good wishes!

: Repeated episodes of colon cleansing can cause rebound lack of motility. Make sure you are eating many fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water (2-3 liters daily) and take a probiotic capsule to maintain your good bacteria. Stop the Colon cleanses and allow your body to naturally move the stool out.

: For the most part the results that you mention of this abdominal film are not worrisome. However, I would recommend that you consult with the physician who ordered the x-ray to discuss with you the results in light of the reasons why the x-ray was ordered. This will help with an overall management plan.

Yes, but: There is a correlation between chronic constipation and diverticular disease which includes diverticulitis. Not everyone with chronic constipation gets diverticulosis.

But, there are cases where patients get so much constipation, they get fecal impaction and have to be manually disimpacted.

Obstruction: Cancer can obstruct the flow of fecal matter in the colon and the obstruction may become severe enough to cause obstruction. The cancer may be ring shaped and encircle the colon or may form a large mass and block the flow of intestinal contents.
At your age, constipation is unlikely to be due to colon cancer.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

DIET NOT constipated: Not constipation per se , but diet may a factor:
diets high in whole grain, fruits, and veggies have been linked with a lower risk of colorectal cancer, but fiber supplements have  not been shown to prevent colo-rectal cancer. Excess red meats and processed meats can increase your colorectal cancer risk and cooking meats at very high heat may create chemicals that might increase cancer risk.

Yes: However not among the most common cause for individuals your age. Family history is critical as well in evaluating young patients with constipation. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms.
