Less parasites: it helps to reduce parasites in chickens, and many experts believe this is due to its negative charge and cylindrical shape. The thinking behind this is that positively charged bacteria and parasites (plus some viruses) may be attracted to it like magnets are attracted to one another. Because of its shape, the pathogens get trapped in the center and carried out of the body.

Diatomaceous Earth: Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is used to eliminate certain insects as it is made from Diatoms which are mostly amorphous silica.  Food grade DE is "Generally Recognized as Safe" by the FDA.  I would check with your PCP who knows your history best regarding any parasite infections.

The CONS: are that eating dirt of any kind has NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE and can result in anemia (particularly Iron Deficiency Anemia) the PROS as far as I know are NONE! (Despite the many "claims" of benefits to bowels, joints, hair etc etc etc ) In my opinion NONSENSE!

Diatomaceous earth: Some people tout food-grade diatomaceous earth as a digestive cleanser.  It will not be harmful, but i'm not sure it's really needed.  Pica involves compulsively eating non-nutritive substances like clay and dirt.  The makers of food grade diatomaceous earth claim that use of their products may even help pica, rather than increasing it.  I could find no studies addressing this -- sorry!

Since parasitic disease is a worldwide problem,  the who recommends effective avoidance/control programs and treatment of  identified parasite with a drug or combination specific to that entity.

Yes: Diatomaceous earth is just loaded with long dead diatoms, a form of algae that populated the ocean depths millions of years ago. Except for the rare risk  of a personal allergy to this material like you might for strawberries/eggs it is just dry/inert casings of dead algae. It is also used by farmers to plug leaks in ponds.

hi i got diatomaceous earth food grade but it's meant for pests and isnt for human consumption, it has 100% amorphous silica and 0.1% crystalized silica. i inhaled some and have it in clumps aroundmy carpet, will i get silicosis from the particles?

: The condition arises in those with significant (5-20 year) regular exposure to microparticles of the material. The chance of the cited exposure producing a long term defect approaches zero. The lung does have a self cleaning mechanism designed to remove particles from what we inhale. That system will likely clean up and remove any inhaled material in the next few weeks.

Diatomaceous earth: Multiple uses - as a mechanical insecticide, an abrasive, a marker for veterinary GI experience, and originally as a stabilizer in dynamite, but no real good use in humans and potentially a lot of down side if inhaled.  Definitely NOT recommended.

No: This is a myth. It does not help at all.The only substances that help with this are medications prescribed by a rheumatologist.This is a serious disease and can easily cause permanent deformity and disability so it should be managed by a board certified rheumatologist who can prescribe medications that can give you the best chance of putting the disease into remission and avoiding pain/disability.
