SAME CLASS OF MEDS: Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) works for longer period and has 2 different layers of med, one released immediately another later on.

i am taking prilosec for gastritis .  the gi dr started me on dexilant (dexlansoprazole).  can i switch.  which one is more effective?

Both meds are good: both Prilosec and Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) are effective medications but one may work better for you.  Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) is long acting prevacid which is thought to last longer in your system than Prilosec.  If the GI doctor switched you because you were still having symptoms on Prilosec then Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) maybe a better choice

Reflux vs dyspepsia: You may not have reflux (24hr test) but could still have dyspepsia or gastritis that responds to acid blocking? Have you had H. Pylori testing?

GERD: I`m assuming that you have tried dietary modification and other medicines for gastritis such as carafate (sucralfate) or ranitidine.    
There are surgical procedures that sometimes help in patients with refractory or chronic gerd - one of them being a nissen fundoplication.

have superficial gastric ulcers. cant take dexilant (dexlansoprazole) or protonix. prilosec 2x a day is not helping. dont have reflux. got zantac. how should i take it?

Twice a day. : If you are having problems with your medications, you need to speak to your pcp or gastroenterologist. You need to avoid nsaids like aleve,  Motrin , asa . You can try zantac (ranitidine) at a twice a day dose, but still suggest follow up with the doctor.

Prilosec: Has a very good track record in treating ulcers.  High likelihood it well resolve your problem.

Different meds: Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) (lansoprazole) 60mg is a dual-release lansoprazole, and is somewhat like taking lansoprazole 30mg twice daily.  Lansoprazole 30mg is considered to be an equivalent dose to omeprazole 20mg.  Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) 60mg once daily therefore is roughly the equivalent of omeprazole 20mg twice daily. Nexium (esomeprazole), rabeprazole, pantoprazole also exist; some people respond to one more than another.

They are equivalent.: Both of these work equally well. However, some patients respond well to one and not the other, and sometimes trial and error is the only method to determine which medication is best for a particular patient. The risk of atrophic gastritis, although small, would be essentially equal for each of the medications. I would recommend returning to your gastroenterologist to discuss this. Good luck.

is it safe to take 60mg of dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) 40mg omeprazole, and 150mg of zantac daily?

Overkill: Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) and Omeprazole belong to the same category of meds (ppi) different delivery system and zantac is h2 blocker which blocks acid production at a later part of the spectrum than ppi. We have mixed ppi and h2 blockers for severe gerd or persistent acid (tested by monitoring) but not two ppi as the side effects can increase like hypomagnesemia.

Diet: If medication are not enough you have to consider if the foods you are eating are making the problem worse.  Common foods like coffee, tomato sauce, orange juice, etc. Are acid and can make symptoms of gastritis or reflux worse.
