Atopic diseases: "atopic diseases" including allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis or eczema, and asthma do appear to have genetic influence.  If one parent has an atopic disease, the likelihood that there children will have atopy is increased.  There is large variation in expression.

Accepted Answer

Clingy or itchy??: If a child has severe eczema they suffer from itchy skin which can make them clingy.  Severe itching makes the child very irritable and may need treatment with something like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) before bed.  The itchy skin can also interfere with sleep and contribute to irritability.  A good moisturizer can help plus wet to dry soaks before bed.  Your doctor can recommend appropriate medicated creams.

Good question: It is felt that this is a genetic condition realated to the early exposure of antigens in this population.  As time passes and the body becomes more tolerant to the environment it tends to be mitigated in nearly 3/4 of involved patients.

Not Known: I am not aware of any evidence that it works for eczema or doesn't.Also not aware of studies as to whether it is safe for kids.

No cure yet: With proper treatment, eczema can be controlled but no cure is available.

Hydrocortisone: Also look for moisterizers with ceremides. Eucerin, aveeno eczema care, etc. First soak in water for a long time----at least until fingers wrinkle----then rub in cream soon after. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will not help eczema nor will it reduce itch.

Eczema: Foods such as wheat, corn, peanuts, eggs.A whole list of things that can be determined by talking to an allergist, also perfumed soaps, detergents, etc.

ECZEMA: Eczema becomes severe if no moisturizer is applied on the skin plus steroid cream. Mild Hydrocortisone 2percent cream is good for  the very young kids and stronger steroids for the older  children.

is there any correlation between immunizations and eczema in children?

Accepted Answer

Not really: Unless there is a specific component within the vaccine that your child is allergic to, then vaccines should not cause flare up of eczema. Your child is exposed to numerous allergens every single day, and it's likely these are the triggers. Work with an allergist to determine what your child's triggers are, and talk with your pediatrician about maximizing skin care to avoid flare-ups of the eczema.
