can the microscopic stress fractures caused by weight training also increase the length of long bones if the growth plates have yet to close?

Stress fracture: Stress fractures on teenagers or adults  have to be treated if there question of joint involvement or not. If the joint is affected surgery can be done to prevent shifts in the cartilage and gaps in the joint space. Sometimes pinning the fracture can correct it also. It is especially important for teenagers to beware of stress fractures near growth plates, they will affect the growth of the bone.

No: No, the growth plates in a 40 year old have been closed have been closed for many years and so pagers or really any condition can not really cause the growth of a person several inches at that age.  Hat size can get bigger as the skull can enlarge, but no significant vertical growth.

Not diet!: No diet will add fat to just your face.  The appearance of your face is affected by your teeth. If you have lost molars, your cheeks sink in. All those pictures of Shakespeare with that thin face and pointy chin, I suspect are due to his missing a lot of teeth! So to address your problem, if absent teeth affect your appearance, see a dentist.  If you have lost weight unexpectedly, see your GP.

It's a long story...: Briefly, at the end of all long bones are physes (growth plates) that are composed of columns of cartilage cells.  These columns grow one cell at a time, and cells at the bottom swell and die and become a scaffold for bone formation. Look for closure: I'm not an olympic specialist or pediatric endocrinologist but growth plates close in specific order which helps us determine biologic age but this may not always match chronologic age. Lack of closure suggests young biologic age which then suggests young chronologic age. But there's no absolute guarantee.
