Zero, sort of...: A normal boy has testes descended before birth at full-term, which means the average NORMAL boy's age is zero when his testes are seen for the first time when he is born. We don't "average in" the ages of other crytorchid boys (those with undescended testicle(s)) to get a number, because the number we get is not useful for anything. That said, a urologist can be consulted at age 6 to 9 months.

Venograms: Usually these venograms are done at different times.  Each looks for something different.  Descending venograms look for venous reflux and ascending look for anatomy and clots. Both are not done often anymore.

Meaning, surgically place them down or remove them .  The incidence of cancer of testis in undescended testis is high .

5- 5.5 cm diameter: The concern is rupture of a thoracic aortic aneurysm. Serial ct scans are done every 6 months to monitor growth. At 1.7 cm the chances are it will never grow to the critical level requiring surgery. At some point you probably can decrease the frequency of the scans to yearly.
