i've been diagnosed with anxiety, depression and add for years now. i always seem to find a crutch..drugs, men, sex, alcohol ..i want to stop, help?

12 Step program: Please continue to see your doctors for your anxiety, depression and ADD.  Beyond that, consider getting into a 12 step program which can help you avoid the unhelpful move toward drugs, men, sex, alcohol, etc.  Some groups are called AA, some NA, but they all work on the same model. If used long term: Mood changes (depression) due to alcohol usually clear up once drinking stops.  Of course, if drinking doesn't stop, the depression can be ongoing.  Severe chronic alcoholism can cause permanent brain damage, which may include depression as a symptom even after drinking stops.

No.: Alcohol is itself considered to be a depressant due to its effects on the brain. It is never considered a good treatment for depression. Anyone who feels depressed should be evaluated by their primary care physician or psychiatrist to be diagnosed and treated properly.

Works both ways: Drinking can lead to depressive symptoms
depressive symptoms can lead to drinking.
In either case help is available and people with depression and/or drinking problems should get help.

More Pills?: I have several friends with the same struggle. Two have won the battle with the help of aa and modern medicine. Start with aa in your area and believe you want to win the battle as my two friends have then seek out good therapy to discover why you are depressed. It could be a chemical imbalance or just something that needs to be resolved from within. Enjoy the journey, win the battle, be free/hppy.

Call: If need is urgent or emergent call or go to a local emergency room. 

Otherwise wait for return call from md

problems that can be alleviated by medication are likely worsened by alcohol.

Glad you realize : This is probably due to a mix of your life situation, your genetics, and some of the beliefs and habits you have built over your eighteen years. I think you already realize that this is the way to a miserable life, loss of all your good relationships, and early death. You need to see your physician now about medication and referral for likely CBT and a group of supportive people. Do it man, now.

when does the puffy face from alcohol go away? i drank heavily for 2-3 weeks and i noticed my face looks very puffy / swollen. what is the cause for this and this is just temporary right? its making my depression even worse. day 2 and its the same?

: Alcohol causes the body to become dehydrated.  When the body is dehydrated, skin and vital organs try to hold onto as much water as possible, leading to puffiness in the face and elsewhere.  Make sure to drink plenty of water, and avoid any carbonated beverages.  This should begin to dissipate.  If you need help with your drinking habits you should discuss it further with your primary doctor.

It is a depressant.: Not everyone will get waves of depression, at least initially. Alcohol universally is seen as a depressant. The degree to which it is depressing varies but the fact that it is a depressant is clear. You may be at greater risk for serious depression that is clinical and could need intervention if you continue to drink alcohol in any form.
