Root canal pain: Bad news.  I'd get the tooth scanned with 3d x ray ( cbct) and evaluated for fracture.  For sure there is chronic infection if still hurts.   Lots of systemic worries besides pain.  Look into spirochetosis.  Bad critters can grow around those areas of teeth.

That depends: I have had patients who dont have ay pain after a root canal. And then I have had some with severe pain after a root canal. It depends on how much instrumentation is done beyond the apex of the tooth, how inflamed the nerve is when the treatment was performed (the longer one waits to get a root canal, the more likely it is to hurt after), and your pain tolerance. There are medications to help.

Calcium Hydroxide: Calcium Hydroxide has been used for years, it is anti-inflammatory, biocompatiable to tooth tissues, bacterical static and will promote a good seal along the walls of the root canals.

Fortunately no: If they were, we would not be allowed to take them. Dental radiographs are very weak in strength, and are of a diagnostic dose, they are only directed to your mouth, and shields are placed to protect the rest of your body from scatter. They are needed to diagnose disease and confirm that treatment has been successful.

: Cotton pellet with medication is placed between visits for an uncompleted procedure. Once a tooth has completed endo, no medication is needed but a dry pellet is usually placed to indicated the bottom of the chamber for the restoring dentist. It has no effect on post operative pain.

The same . . . : Teeth treated endodontically should look the same, with the exception of an access hole that is drilled on the biting surface of back teeth or the back sides of front teeth.  If there is a lot of decay on the tooth, removal of it may alter the appearance of the tooth.  Either way, the tooth will be filled so that it is properly sealed and most often, this is barely noticeable.

Follow up Check: The tooth which had a root canal may be experiencing pain from a variety of causes.  If the nerve tissue was incompletely obturated or if the tooth has fractured (prior to a build-up filling and crown placement)- then you could be experiencing the pain you've described.  However, it is quite difficult to make an assumption without inspection or radiographs.  See your dentist for a follow-up.

Crowns are placed to protect a tooth from failure, such as breaking, or to replace parts of a missing tooth. A crown is permanently cemented to the tooth. If the crown falls off it can easily be recemented by a dentist.

Postoperatory pain: The most likely reason you had root canal treatment was because an infected tooth. Once you start the treatment the pain generally diminishes but can still continue. Generally the treatment requires several session. Meanwhile you should consult with the treating dentist for the need for antibiotics  or pain medication or both.
