Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride): You will never seen this in the USA - Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) oral. Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) has got a bad rap. Some physicians may still use it IV in the hospital setting.

i take 2mg of kilonipn once a day. doctor gave me demerol 50mg for a painful procedure. are these really safe to take together? i read it can be bad

Ask and Trust: Discuss your concern w/ your Dr. Perhaps the doses can be lower but the likely result will be to feel very sleepy for the short time you need both. If you want more reassurance, also ask the druggist but your Dr is best to talk w/. Try to reach trust and that will reduce the anxiety and pain too! For the future, consider supporting therapy to optimize the Rx help.

6 days ago i developed what i thought was a migraine. went to doc for demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) shot 2x didn't work. headache is severe on top if my head, pressure. ?

Other issues: Might be referred pain from muscles in neck and shoulder.  Could be intracranial as well. Sources of help:  neurologist, neuromuscularly oriented massage therapist,  if no better than get a ct or MRI to rule out bad alternatives.

complicated issue: Demerol, (meperidine hydrochloride) however much it may be helping you, is a terrible drug with awful side effects, especially in higher doses.  Many authorities, myself included, believe it should be off the market. Finding a pain physician who will ignore your addiction history (however long in the past) and prescribe Methadone is taking some serious risks.  Very few pain specialists prescribe demerol- get a 2nd opinion.

one other question on lorazapam why do they make a pill that needs to be cut in half or qtrs. why would a doc not prescribe the lowest possible dose ?

Dose and money: In the beginning, it is usually to get to the right dosage -- we write for more and you take little bits until it's a good amount.
But then, it's often so you dont have to pay as many co-pays.
Either way, if it is stressing you, discuss it with your doctor.
We want you to be okay with taking your meds, and if you're not, we want you to tell us. I'm sure your doc will be ok with changing the size.

No easy answer: It is difficult to say why your doctor won't prescribe a stronger pain medication without knowing the details of your specific clinical situation. However, rarely is pain medication the answer as these are only  pain "maskers", whereas we want to look for the source of the pain and treat the cause of the pain. Discuss this with your doctor.

Not your call.: I am always "frightened"by patients who believe they need pain meds, usually, no always meaning narcotics.  They almost always have "tasted" these drugs before, frequently inappropriately! your doctor is the best arbitor of this, hopefully a creditable one. Very few patients need narcotic therapy. Narcotics are grossly overprescribed! you are male-they will kill your masculinity! great trade off!

No need to convince: Tell your doctor what symptoms you are experiencing and he will be able to arrive at a diagnosis. However, if you feel that you have depression and your pcp does not agree with you, then ask to be referred to a psychiatrist for a second opinion.
