The periosteum is like a sausage casing and is highly vascularized. the ball impact likely caused damage to the periosteum and the small blood vessels. This resulted in an accumulation of blood (hematoma) beneath or adjacent to the point of impact. A large hematoma forms quickly but resolves over weeks

Re-evaluate: A fracture can be missed on initial X-rays and follow up imaging may be required.  An open wound can lead a deeper infection. So if you have persistent pain and difficulty beating weight, re-evaluation is mandatory,

Varies : When you do sustain a "bone bruise" it can affect the periosteum, which is the lining of the bone.  This can result in extra bone formation and the lumps you are describing.  I would not hesitate to be seen and possibly have some further studies.

See a Dr: severe knee injuries can require surgery. It would be prudent for you to see a dr asap. The Dr can examine the area, do imaging studies and check to see if there is a patellar fracture or ligament damage. Put ice on the knee until seen today.

what do you suggest if i have a small bruise that have some red in it and its hard. its on the middle of the back of my leg. is this deep vein thrombosis?

Seems superficial.: DVT is not characterized by something that you can feel in the skin.  What you describe could be one of several things including a clot in a superficial vein (superficial phlebitis), a hematoma or a cyst on the leg.  Try heat and Ibuprofen for one week.  If no better then you should see a vein specialist for an evaluation.

calf injury a week ago, causing circular contusion 4 inches wide. bruising is fading but a lump 1.5 inches long and .5 inch wide has developed two days ago deep in leg. i have mild aa and pnh, blood work good last month. concerned about a blood clot?

: Blood clots in deep veins are not palpable. Good chance it is a hematoma (collection of blood) from the injury which will slowly get smaller and harder and get absorbed. If worried see your doc for exam.

Go see MD: After a week most minor injuries to the knee should be getting better. The possible injuries are extensive and need to be evaluated by an orthopedist, sports med doc or joint specialst (rheumatologist), depending on who you have access to. Stay off it a much as possible until it is checked out.

Possibly impingement: The anterior ankle joint may become painful when the foot is excessively dorsiflexed during activity.  The soft tissue or joint capsule becomes "pinched" between the tibia (leg) and the talus(foot) causing pain.   X-rays will show no fracture due to only soft tissue involvement.  Typically minimal swelling or bruising.

Natural Process: With injury to our tissues, inflammation (red, hot, swelling, tenderness) occurs.  There is leakage of blood from damaged capillaries and veins which collects under the skin and causes the purple blue coloring we call a bruise.  Over time, damaged tissues heal and blood collections are reabsorbed slowly causing the wide array of colors in the area.  Protect the area to promote fastest healing.
