i got a bit of food poisoning earlier this week (no vomiting or diarrhea, just stomach cramping). started feeling better but got a sore throat yesterday so i took a dayquill a little while ago. was that a bad idea considering the stomach issues?

Sure: Stimulant laxative. Depending on dose, certainly can cause vomiting, cramps, diarrhea.  So can underlying medical conditions.

i recovered from covid 2 and a half months ago and got my first vaccine jab 4 days ago! today i have 102 fever along with diarrhoea could this be the side effects of the vaccine or shall i go for covid test?

: I suspect it is a side effect/individual reaction to the vaccine. The Maderna instructions specify waiting 90 days after covid before using. Yet some have such a esponse to any of the vaccines whether they had covid or not.

hi i have been on chemo therapy for the past three years with very few side effects. i started a a new one called hycanptin two weeks ago. i have been so violently ill with vomiting and diahrea is this normal?

Side effect hycamtin: Also known as topotecan. Yes severe diarrhea is a known side effect, as well as vomiting and nausea. There is medication to prevent or lessen these side effects. When nausea or diarrhea become severe it might lead to dehydration and more serious problems such as kidney failure. Stopping the drug to allow recovery and future dose reduction or discontinuing it altogether are options .

was prescribed cetirizine hydrochloride syrup 4 hayfever. bowels were fine but since taking - had 2 trips to the toilet with diarrhoea. side effects??

: As in previous reply, the suppositories were not the cause of your diarrhea. If persistent or recurrent yeast infection has been confirmed by testing (not just symptoms), ask your doctor about single dose fluconazole (Diflucan) by mouth.

No: No they do not. Side effects vary from person to person and drug to drug. Some have little or no side effects while other antibiotics are known to have more side effects. Your md will tell you what you should look out for when prescribing an antibiotic.

Depends: It depends on the cause or source.  If medication, it needs to flush from your system - each medicine has it's own halflife of clearnace from the body.  In some cases, if the med causes a heart rhythm issue, it may not get better and may worsen.  Same thing goes for antibiotics - they may induce c-diff colitis and symptoms will not improve. If not improving, seek evaluation and further care.

Famotidine : Although famotidine  can rarely cause diarrhea, the fact that you can take it on a regular basis without side effects make it more likely that today's episode is not due to the medication. If your diarrhea persists on a regular basis, you may need to switch medications. Drink plenty of fluids to remain well hydrated until the diarrhea passes. Good luck.

i am constipated and probably need to take a laxative but am worried about side effects. do laxatives give you diarrhea

Laxatives: This is a loaded question. Start by defining exactly what you mean by constipation, and keeping a journal of what happens daily.
Laxatives may or may not be appropriate and should be used regularly only under medical supervision.  To address constipation on your own, first eat 3 regular meals per day, drink two liters of water per day, cut out caffeine and alcohol, and add fiber to each meal.
