Still Controversial: John, I'm still not completely through the book, but the premise is one that I am beginning to agree with--namely that carbohydrates are the "root of all evil."  Keep in mind that this assertion is still very controversial, and you will find some doctors who agree with it and some who do not--which is true of almost any new idea amongst doctors. See a Dr: Any unbearable pain which has been going on for years requires a thorough exam by a Dr. Causes for the pain you have described vary from benign (improper posture, poor lifting technique, overuse) to serious ( herniated cervical disc, dislocated rib, heart problem, compression fracture) A Dr will examine you and may order tests and imaging to determine the cause and treatment for this problem.

Grain Brain: Grain brain contains some life changing ideas.  Whether you adopt all the suggestions depends on your clinical status.  Staying off wheat is probably a good idea for most of us -- other grains like amaranth, quinoa, etc are better.  If you&#x27;re Insulin resistant at all, you might need to be careful of very sweet fruits that increase your blood sugar.  Berries, apples, etc are less a problem.

Drugs: It's possible to get a lot of variability even though you're thinking you're taking the same drug. For example I have had people take Synthroid versus levothyroxine and both of their clinical outcomes and TSH markers improved better with Synthroid the non generic

Generic products made by other companies are allowed to have a small variation in efficacy which is generally not clinically a problem, except for blood thinners, thyroid Rx and very sensitive patients.

Hard time: widowhood: I became a widow over a year-and-a-half ago, too. It is a very rough time, and some moments are just harder than others. Holidays can bring special pain, so plan some new holiday activities this year. It won't be the same, but we know that already. Please find a grief support group, some physical activity that you enjoy, and let yourself walk through these tough days. It gets better bit by bit.
