Define constipation: A month old baby that is breast fed can have a little stool every feed or one overflow diaper every 7-10 days. If it is soft when he goes it is not constipation & needs no rx. If he is formula fed, and passing hard pellets, you can use juice.1oz of apple or prune juice 1-2x/day  will help most.

If she's breast-fed,: Infrequent  stooling alternating with several stools in a day  can be normal. If bottle-fed & her last stool was hard pebbles, check with her pediatrician about using an infant glycerine suppository.

See below: Reduce fatty food intake like some dairy foods like cheese, and excessive milk.  Also, start to increase fruit and vegetables in the diet.  Some fruit juices may help as well.  To help loosen and soften stool, MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) is beneficial and a dose of 1 gram per kilogram of weight once a day is appropriate to start.

Constipation infant: Add sorbitol-containing juices (eg, apple, prune, or pear). If your child has already started solid foods, fruit purees can be used. Increasing fiber content of the infant’s solid foods is also recommended including multi-grain or barley cereal instead of rice cereal and pureed peas or prunes. Infrequent use of glycerin suppositories for very hard stool in the rectum.

Diet: Make sure diet includes fiber rich fruits and vegetables. I also recommend pear juice for constipated kids, just until the constipation resolves and then just as needed afterwards. I'm not a fan of a lot of juice as an every day thing, as they generally have a lot of sugar and very little nutritional value-kids are better off eating the fruit.

It happens: Talk to your pediatrician about this. Perhaps a gentle iron fortified formula would be better for your baby's little tummy. If i were you i would definitely call the pediatrician and go from there.

Alter diet: Lactulosecan be given as needed, but try altering your daughter's diet. Increase fruits vegeteles, legumes and nuts and reduce milk and milk products that she is eating and drinking.

Constipation: This is prob the most common chronic prob in kids. Best tx with diet: increase fluids, fruit, fiber decrease: bread, milk, meat. As a sideline give 5gm: fiber one bar daily if diet wont work so stool will be soft then dont potty train till poop is regular. When in pain try hot bath and numb rectum with hemorrhoid numbing meds.

Continue: It takes a few days for MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) to begin regular , daily bm's.Return to your pedi, if not effective.
