Sun discolored skin: The sun causes the formation of melanin in the skin, which makes the skin darker.If you are unhappy with the way your skin looks from too much sun, you must first prevent any sun exposure at all, by wearing protective clothing, and hats, and by using sun blockers every day. You can try to lighten the skin with bleaches that contain hydroquinone, and by using a glycolic acid lotion.

You can: "lighten" your skin with certain cosmetic treatments but you cannot (at least at present!!)change your GENETIC skin complexion!

COMPLEXION: Perhaps you need a dermatologist for bleaching treatment. Your skin gets darker if you expose too much under the sun.

Severe acne?????: Assuming you have severe nodulocystic acne, and assuming you are dosing it correctly, this will bring dramatic improvement. Results are likely to be seen in another 2 or 3 months. Standard treatment is 5 months. During treatment there will be dry skin and lips. As the acne clears the color will SLOWLY fade towards normal. After the last dose the dry skin will recover in a week.

Good question: there can be many explanations including whether this is inherited from other family members, or whether you have a systemic medical illness. If the pigmentation is only around the nails, a  dermatologist may be able to help. discuss this with your physician and if your general health is clean, seeing a dermatologist may be the best way to answer this question

Acanthosis nigricans: Are you overweight? Are you non-white in ethnic background? If so, you may have something referred to as acanthosis nigricans which is a skin thickening in areas such as the neck, axilla, elbows, and groin. There is no bleaching or laser treatment for this condition. Weight loss is the best treatment. I would recommend getting worked up for pre-diabetes as well.

Skin color: A dermatologist can help you keep your skin healthy.  Please focus on being neat and clean and a nice person.  That has far more appeal than skin color.  Peace and good health.

Concern: This raises a red flag for me. It is unusual for a young man to be iron deficient without an identifiable cause. Do you have an ulcer? Some other source of bleeding? One serious medical blunder is to mistake thalassemia minor or some other microcytic anemia and treat it with iron; the iron accumulates in the body, darkens the skin, and damages organs. Consider a 2nd opinion. Just my idea.
