43 yr male. pancreatic cancer worry. multicolor stools lt brwn/dk brwn/chalk. if bilirubin not getting to stool causes pale stools, doesnt bilirubin build up in body? why no jaundice? dark urine? bilirubin lvls normal. other reason for pale stool?

: You may have an intermittent gall bladder blockage by stones of gravel and boil is not up enough of long enough to develop jaundice. 
Ask about GB studies and check family history of GB  disease.  Could also be cancer of ampulla of Vader that blocks then blocking piece of Ca sloughs off and duct opens again. Have team check stool guaiac as you may bleed when piece of cancer falls off. Discuss.

: Go for an exam and testing to your PCP. Other diseases can cause similar symptoms. Stop worrying and seek professional help.

Hepatitis: During hepatitis, jaundice occurs which is due to increased bilirubin in the blood. A by-product of bilirubin is urobilinogen which is excreted in the urine causing the dark color.

Potentially serious: If your stools are pale & your urine is dark like tea, this may indicate possible potentially serious problems with your liver or pancreas.    This needs to be evaluated immediately by a GI specialist, especially if you also notice yellowing of your eyes.  Lab tests, ct scan or an ultrasound examination are recommended.

Since: one effect of kidney failure is inability of the organ to "concentrate" urine a light color is more common. If however there is loss of blood via the failing kidney (as in glomerulonephritis (infection) the urine can be "smokey" or "dark in color!

recently sometimes my urine is dark yellow although i drink much water. then i drink more and it turns completely normal, pale straw.if there was an underlying problem, would it be persistently dark instead of going back to normal by itself?

: Transient urine discoloration.  I suspect food additive or medication including multivitamin as culprit.
Persistent dark smokey urine suggests hematuria (red blood cells in urine) and deserves medical attention.

Yes and no. : In general, if you are well hydrated, your urine will become more dilute as your body eliminates surplus water. Urine can appear clear and colorless. If you ingest foods or vitamins that color the urine, urine appearance is no longer a good gauge of hydration status. The importance of 'staying hydrated' is likely somewhat overstated, so be careful when consuming large volumes of free water.

Jaundice: Jaundice can be a symptom of several diseases or infections.  It would depend on which one for treatment.  I would recommend a work up for these symptoms by a physician.

Variable: All the 3 features you have mentioned are caused by obstruction of bile flow, so all 3 would occue together. Besides jaundice, there is usually indigestion, weight loss and abdominal pain which is progressively worse over weeks. If you had any of the above and these symptoms persist a CT scan of the abdomen may be the best way to find out if there is any such possibility(Cancer of Pancreas)
