Acanthosis nigricans: If this is equal on both sides, it could be acanthosis nigricans.  This condition can be related to many disorders but is commonly related to Insulin resistance or diabetes.  It sometimes can affect other skin folds like the neck and fingers. Please see your doctor to evaluate this.

i had fungal infection on thighs and armpits they are now cured however left dark patches where i had the infection, which cream should i use to lighten these dark skin patches??

Time/lightening crea: The dark patches left over from your infection should lighten over time. If you are interested in lightening these area, use a dermatologically tested  skin lightening cream available at any pharmacy. Avoid using household bleach or other caustic home remedies which can reirritate the skin and cause a return of the fungal infection.

i have developed a dry patch underneath my left arm pit. at times the skin color becomes darker not always. how can this be treated?

Fungal infection: Fungal infection can feel dry can appear darker. Try a combination of antifungal and Hydrocortisone cream twice daily. Orally take garlic supplements.

Dark Underarms: Dark underarm discoloration can be caused by a medical condition known as acanthosis nigricans. While it can affect otherwise healthy people, acanthosis nigricans is frequently found in individuals with Insulin disorders.Diabetes and Insulin resistance are two major causes of acanthosis nigricans. It is also found in individuals with addison disease, pituitarydisease, hypothyroidism.And others.

Dry skin?: If you have noted no skin rash and only itching, dry skin may be the problem. Apply a moisturizer immediately after bathing (avoid scented soap) may be helpful. As for the darkened areas at armpits and thighs, I wonder if you had been scratching these areas often leading to the hyperpigmentation. See dermatologist if problem persists.

Hyperpigmentation: What you are describing is a common phenomenon known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Any time there is inflammation of the skin, whether due to a rash or a pimple or a trauma, one can then get a residual reminder of that inflammation with resulting temporary darkening of the skin. Over time, this will fade but it may take weeks to months to do so.

Dark armpits: Do you also have thick dark areas on your neck and groin ? How much do you weigh ? How tall are you ?  You may have a condition called " acanthosis  nigricans". It is due to Insulin resistance. It occurs in overweight people.It is a risk factor for diabetes type 2, high blood pressure, heart disease and hardening of the arteries etc  etc. Consult a good  primary care doctor or a m endocrinologist.

Dark pigment: This can be normal for some people. Scrubbing it will tend to make it worse because anytime the skin is irritated it can heal lighter or darker than normal   the irritation can cause the melanocytes to produce more pigmentation. Certain conditions, like acanthosis nigracans are notorious for causing increased velvety pigmentation around the neck, under the arms and in the genital area.
