Possible Nephritis: This is very unusual. You may have developed allergic interstitial nephritis (AIN) which is basically an allergy to Ibuprofen which primarily affects the kidneys (not skin). It might be something else entirely.  Drink plenty of fluids as you go to the ER and get checked out. The 1st test to confirm: urine microscopy to look for eosinophils (type of white cell). Go see a doctor, it could be serious

dr "presumably" diagnosed me with diverticulitis.  im taking cipro (ciprofloxacin) and flagyl.  my bowels changed in color  now dark and pasty  is this normal?

Not normal!!!: Black and pasty could mean that you have and upper gastrointestinal bleed...  although unlikely...
Call your prescribing doctor, and do not panic.

GI w/u ASAP: If you have diarrhea with mucus, inflammatory bowel disease or an infection could be to blame. Symptoms of IBS vary widely. Besides mucus-filled diarrhea, you could have:Belly pain that doesn't go away or gets better after a bowel movement
Constipation, diarrhea Gas , Bloating, inadequate evacuation. IBD needs to be considered and ruled out.
Patient should get w/u for definite Dx. See GI

Exam: You must be examined and tested for GI illness. I suggest an abdominal ultrasound.

A : A change in the bowel movements in a patient with a strong family history of colon cancer is a very worrisome symptom.  Your physician should be able to order a diagnostic colonoscopy for symptoms.  This can be done no matter the age of the patient.  Screening colonoscopy at age 50 years old is only a rule for patients of average or low risk of colon cancer , who have absolutely no symptoms, to screen for colon cancer. Hope this info helps.

Consider this...: Although much of stool is the bacterial flora of your gut, what you eat plays a big role in gut motility, effectiveness of digestion, stool pattern/appearance. Fiber supplements increase bulk &amp; therefore stool volume. Adequate fluids avoid dessicated stool. Stool color is very dependent on ingestants.Also, diet modification, exercise, bleeding changes food transit time &amp; the resulting stool.

Green Stool: Any conditions which cause the stool to transit too rapidly through the intestines can lead to green, moist stool. On the other hand eating green leafy vegetables can lead to green stool.  Green cabbage, lettuce, peas, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, green salad, green leaves, celery & green beans as well as food that contains green food coloring can lead to green stool. Some meds can change stool &gt;.

Hernia?: It's possible you may have a left sided inguinal hernia.  If you have been having a lot of constipation, sitting on the toilet and pushing a lot this can increase your risk.  A hernia can be above or below the groin crease.  Either way it sounds like you are in enough pain to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Maybe or maybe not: Very dark black bowel movements that smell badly can be a sign of bleeding. Other causes of dark bowel movements are medications, iron, pepto bismol, (bismuth subsalicylate) etc.
