Cysts are: Women produce small cysts, called follicles, on their ovaries every month.  Ovarian cysts are very common, especially women of reproductive age. The vast majority of ovarian cysts are benign.  

When there is a soft tissue component (a mass that is partially cystic), it generally becomes more concerning as the soft tissue percentage increases.

sonomammogram result (25y/o). should i worry? help! ty.

Fibroadenomas,: Benign breast nodules, are the most common cause of the solid nodules you describe. Sometimes we will get followup exams to make sure they stay stable. Sometimes a needle biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis. I know these findings can cause anxiety but remember that overwhelmingly the findings you describe are not cancer.

i have 2 cystic ovarian masses, on ct scan. could this mean ovarian cancer. i'm nervous. 29 years old?

Accepted Answer

Almost never!!: It is very common to see cysts on the ovaries.  Ovaries make cysts every month that contain eggs.  These come and go all the time.  These are usually small, under 3cm each.  But you should follow up with your gynecologist who can check with an ultrasound.  Ct scan is a very poor way to look at the ovaries and pelvic ultrasound will tell you much more.  Most likely, they will go away on their own.

Mass: Have an endoscopic ultrasound to look at the pancreas and biopsy any suspicious areas seen. This is the best test.

Cysts in pancreas: Chronic pancreatitis (usually due to alcoholism) may produce 'pseudocysts' in the pancreas.  These cysts are benign (not cancer) but can cause problems (infection, rupture).
Most of the time they resorb or 'stay the same'.

what chances 33 y/o male has cystic fibrosisis? i do have a child & i never had breathing issues or pancreatic insufficiency, issues. only sinusitis.

Not great: The fact that you are 33 and have only had sinusitis--which many non-CF people experience--and no other lung or pancreatic signs or symptoms suggestive of CF would make CF very unlikely. You can always arrange for a sweat test

Watch carefully: A tiny punctate cystic lesion in tail of pancreas probably is benign.  Most cystic lesions will grow and  be evaluated by aspiration and analysis of fluid by CEA and CA19.9.  If quesionable an ERCP amd duct brushing can be performed for cytology.  Otherwise re examination by MRI in 4 mo to see if growth occurs.

Accepted Answer

Thick: The secretions in cystic fibrosis are more viscous (thicker) than normal and interfere with normal drainage resulting in blockages of the bronchial tubes of the lung with resultant pneumonia and lung injury. Similar issues involve the pancreas. Newborns with the disease frequently have difficulty passing their bowel movements.

what is, or could be, a 1cm possible cystic lesion on head of pancreas verses dilated distal common duct? should i be worried?

Accepted Answer

At your age, no: Lesions on the pancreas can be serious, but in young people are usually not.  It may be a cyst or may be a dilated common bile duct due to an obstruction such as a gallstone.  You should not be too worried, but you do need to get it further evaluated, usually with an endoscopic ultrasound exam or a repeat scan.
