Safe with monitoring: Both medications are very safe if prescribed by doctors familiar with their use and with appropriate monitoring. The main serious adverse effects have to do with either the fact that the medicines may take a while to have beneficial effects (and during that early period when they have not helped, they can actually make things briefly worse) and preventable long term effects that require monitoring.

Yes: You might try all sorts of combinations under the watchful guidance of your psychiatrist. In your case the difficult decisions will have more to do with the Ativan (lorazepam) (1 mg twice a day) as you might be experiencing problems with rebound anxiety and precipitation of depression.  Don't make any medication changes without consulting with your doctor.

Mechanism of Action: Cymbalta is in a class of medications know as serotonin-norepinephrine-reuptake-inhibitors. Abilify (aripiprazole) is a partial Dopamine & serotonin agonist. I know that's a mouth full, but the bottom line is they affect brain chemicals differently. Everyone responds differently to different medications & it's very common, especially with antidepressants, to have vastly different responses to each medication.

Not much: You will actually do your body a favor if you stop the abuse of adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). Your blood pressure and pulse rare will normalize and anxiety will go down. Minor muscle movements may be seen which may be inconsequential.

Yes, but why?: There is no substantive evidence that orally administered 5htp is effective for depression. But there are verified reports of severe reactions to it. It makes no sense to think that ingested tryptophan will increase brain serotonin any more if taken in pills than in food. This is an example of "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing." i wouldn't waste money on this treatment.
