Depends: It depends on appearance of liver. With cirrhosis the liver may appear more nodular in appearance versus smooth echo texture but to truly determine whether or not cirrhosis is present or to what degree your liver has been damaged you need a biopsy.

No, not even 2 scans: Patients get CT scans all over the world, every day. As long as there is a good reason for the scan, it is fine to do. If repeated scans are planned, to follow some sort of serious illness, a patient can ask his doctor what other options there are, in order to decrease the total number of scans in his lifetime. Having repeated CT scans, over and over, can add up to much x-ray exposure.

my dad is 53 years old and in good shape. he was diagnosed with stage 4 secondary liver cancer; the primary is still unknown. he has had a ct scan, an endoscopy, and a colonoscopy done. will a pet scan show something more?

Possibly: More important is the pathology.  We rely on pathology and the immunochemistry.  The pet may be helpful but sometimes we do not find a primary.  This is called a cancer of unknown primary.

Hmmm....: It's safer to look at this as already a serious problem. Fatty liver damage is a serious health complication, usually due to taking in too many calories compared to what a patient needs for normal life. Obesity is a serious health complication due to the same cause, taking in too many calories compared to what a person needs. The cure is conceptually simple (stop the excess intake) but hard to do.

Yes: Steatosis, or fatty liver, can lead to steatohepatitis (inflammation of fatty liver cells) which can lead to cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) and ultimately liver cancer (also called hepatocellular carcinoma).  Fortunately, by achieving an ideal body weight, you can often reverse  fatty liver changes before it is too late.

FIL: Fatty infiltration is very common and benign. Most modern ultrasound units can easily discern this. Steatosis is a more ominous diagnosis, and may worsen over time. See your doctor to get a full understanding of your prognosis.

Yes,: it can, although in the case of the cysts, the contrast enhancement helps with the detection and diagnosis.
