when you get sinus ct scan are they looking at the whole head or just your sinuses ?

Sinus CT: CT scans are directed to the specific anatomy that your doctor is interested in.  A sinus CT is focused and optimized to examine your nasal and sinus cavities.  Although surrounding structures are viewed at times, including other parts of your head, the radiologist will adjust the window settings for the specific tissue of interest.  Also some tissues image better with contrast.  Hope this helps.

mini sinus ct scan 3/17 tooth mini ct scan 1 side 6/17 & again one week later is it too much radiation if i now have a regular ct scan of face/neck ?

Shouldnt be an issue: Overall this shouldnt be an issue exposure wise and these scans are to aid in diagnosis and unfortunately nothing can provide the same info that doesnt have some exposure to it.

i have a lump on my left cheek. just below top of jaw. dr is doing a sinus ct scan w/o contrast. will this show if it's a lymphnode in my cheek?

No lymph node in you: Need more history. Now your testing will help to identify. Wit to see what your doctor says

ent question: if ct scan is needed of my sinuses, when will i get results? will i have to wait until the results and see her again for diagnosis?

Accepted Answer

Depends on dr: Most doctors will want to review your results with you in person, some will do on the telephone.  The results of the testing is yours, so you can ask for copy of the report from the imaging center.  What to do about the results is best left to discussing with the physician that ordered the testing.

when i get my ct scan results on cd of head and sinuses to take with me to my ent appt, can i look at results from cd to see if there's tumor?

CD is yours: The cd and information contained within it is your property.  You can try loading the cd onto your computer but unless your a trained radiologist you wont be able to interpret the pictures.  Sometimes there is a report contained within the cd.  It is much easier to speak with your physician regarding the results.

saw my ent after ct scan. she showed me my sinuses and then she showed me a round solid grey circle. was that top of head? she said it looked fine to.

No: There are basically three densities in the CAT scan of the paranasal sinuses.  Black is air, dense white is bone and grey is soft tissue.  A round grey circle could have been the orbit (eye).  It was not the top of the head which would have been dense white.  After viewing the CAT scan with your ENT doctor, you should have walked away with a lot more information.

i had a ct scan of my neck in 2006. it said i had a polyp on my maxillary sinus. is that even possible to see maxillary sinuses on neck ct? could it turn cancerous? my dr wasnt concerned and didnt biopsy it?

: Yes, polyp in maxillary sinus can be seen with CT of the neck. There is no indication for biopsy of the sinus polyp because sinus polyp is a benign, non-cancerous inflammatory growth. You had CT scan in 2006 and now the polyp may no longer be present, and if it  transformed to a malignant growth it would have done so years ago.

had ct scan radiologist stated could see old hemridge from fall 6 yrs ago but all good i had worries.ent said sinuses-clear. having minor head pain off and on. ent stated maybe a mri, stated did not expected to see nothing. less than 1%. so why mri?

: Since you're experiencing head pain and have an abnormality on your head CT scan, further investigation should be directed by a neurologist and not the ENT. The neurologist should quiz &amp; examine you, review the CT scan with the radiologist &amp; then determine whether a brain MRI is advisable or not.

would a ct scan see an infection, more specifically a dental infection?

Accepted Answer

In some cases: CT Scans show differences in bone density. If an infection destroyed some bone, the area  would look darker. Some changes are obvious and apparent while others require the experience and training as well as a judgment call of the doctor reading the scan. It will generally not show infections in soft tissue.
