will a ct scan (no contrast) detect cervical cancer if it's stage 2b or above? i realize a ct can't diagnose cervical cancer, i'm just wondering how likely it is that something would show up on a ct.

Possible: A CT scan is a general diagnostic tool. It is possible to pick up a mass on CT depending on the size and the body of the person. However there is no way to be 100% sure it is a cancer until further testing, usually biopsy, is performed.

Probably not: Ct scan would only show cancer if there were a large mass. To check for cervical cancer, you need to see a gynecologist. They will probably start with a Pap smear and a good exam. Hope this helps!

It : It sounds like things are being done appropriately.  The first concern is for metastatic disease from your cervical cancer, but that should be ruled out by the ct.  Other causes for pain in that area would include gallstones (ruled out by the ultrasound), ulcers or bowel obstruction (ruled out by the upper and lower GI studies), infection or pancreatitis (ruled out by ct).

If the pain is in the rib itself, it's possible that you could have a fracture, though ct would probably have seen it, or perhaps an inflammatory process called costochonritis.

Cervical cancer: Usually if radiation or chemotherapy is been given, the cancer might be advanced already. Ct scan can show cancer beyond the cervix, affecting the uterine tissue and pelvic sidewall. It can say many things that would point that the cancer has spread. Look for cervical cancer staging in a search engine.

Pain: you may have one ovary larger then the other and it sounds like you have mittelschmerz (ovulation pain).  The larger ovary is usually the one you ovulate from more often.  Also, cervical cancer is not a genetic cancer.  It is caused by HPV, smoking and some chemical exposures.

1-3  days: You should have the results within 72 hrs. You certainly have the right to call and ask if you haven't heard by then.  Many times it is read the same day. Good luck.

Follow drs. protocol: If metabolically active and of significant size tumor of cervix  and metastases would  likely be recognized on pet scan. Tumor does not arise in one day. Microscopic small lesions detected by pap smear are not likely recognized on pet scan. Treatment is determined by physician taking care of you.

One possibility: Certainly, cervical cancer is one possibility,  if your last pap smear was normal, this is less likely.  But, i would recommend a complete gynecological exam by your physician.

Cervical Cancer?: It is very rare that a physician can see that the cervix is cancerous during the pelvic exam. The skin that is collected with the pap smear is what is diagnostic.  The goal with pap smears is to catch changes in the cervix that can predict risk of cancer before you get cancer.  That is why it is so important to have these on a regular basis.
