This test is ideal for evaluating cancer, infection, inflammation, enlarged lymph nodes, and trauma among other things.

Resolution of Image: If the inflammation is superficial, involving the mucosa for example, you may feel terrible, but imaging will not show much. This is because the spatial resolution, while very good, is not that good for very thin/small structures. The reason to get imaging is to exclude the presence of complications, say an abscess.

: Positioning for the best possible study takes time and remains the most time consuming party of specialty exams The actual time on for the CT study using modern equipment is a few minutes per study (ie. with or without contrast). They do not "leave the machine on" for positioning and do not rush the patient out after a study.

Depends on scanner: This will vary with the scanner, somewhat.  I found an assessment/estimate of this with a google search and i really can't do better than this. i had a ct of neck for throid issues and they saw a sm nodule on lung, then had a ct of lung no nodule seen.  repeated neck ct nodule still there?

Small nodule: The thickness of the slices for thyroid and lung tissues are different. Therefor, if a nodule is very small it can be seen in one ct but not in the other. I won't be too much  worried about it but talk to your physician if you need  another type of study or a high-resolution ct scan of the chest.

86 year old male was hospitalized and diagnosed with stridor. x-ray of chest normal. ct of neck shows little swollen gland which . post release stridor noise came down but still little noise is there. pcp recommended loratadine otc. any advise ?

: Discuss allergy testing with your physician. There may have been an exposure and subsequent swelling in the airway. If moderate, steroids may be indicated.
