i have a 15 m/o who has a rash and itches a lot.
the doc prescribed a cortisone cream for itch and a cream to treat scabies, we applied meds as prescribed.
house and bed was treated accordingly, 
but she still has the rash & itch.
worse after bathing?

Some basics: The rash of scabies is a combination of factors. The mite burrows under the skin disturbing it. The body also reacts to mite feces left in the burrows with an allergic rash. Clearing requires both death of the scabies &amp; a calming of the allergic response. The process can take weeks. A warm bath increases itching, cool water does less.

can i use hydrocortizone cream for itching and hotness?

Accepted Answer

It depends!: You can't use hydrocortisone if you have a fungal infection. So knowing the cause or diagnosis is important. You state you have soft tissue swelling and cellulitis, and that's normally treated with antibiotics to reduce swelling. Contact  your doctor first, and always do no harm. Hydrocortisone is not going to help this if it's cellulitis. Follow their advice first.

Possible yeast: you may try clotrimazole or miconazole cream over the counter. If your symptoms persist or worsen stop the cream and make an appointment with your doctor.

can i use desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) for itching?

Maybe: Desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) is actually for dry irritated skin.
If this is the problem than it will probably help to relieve itching.

is it ok to use monistat cream for a yeast infection & vagisil cream for itching at the same time ?

Yes: These will do what you want at the same time and they will not interfere with the action of each other.

No : This cream will not help.  See dermatologist to discuss treatment options.

Yes: Try OTC Monostat Cream.  It sounds like a yeast infection.  Very common and very annoying.  If OTC products don't work, call or see PCP or Gynecologist for rx

Dermatologist: Please see a pediatric dermatologist. Infant ecze a may be associated with allergic and immune disorders. Avoid immersion of the skin in water and don't rub the skin.

It may help: That may help with the itching, but i would suggest treating the underlying problem which is the yeast.
