Sounds possible: The common cause thought of is diabetes and locations 1st in feet and fingers - but there are other diseases too and anyplace there is skin w/ nerve endings may be affected. When you see your doctor, mention it and perhaps it can be addressed - there are effective treatments in many cases.

Crawling sensation: in skin. If this comes and goes the first test I would order would be an EEG.  Remind your neurologist,that you are having "positive" symptoms ( eg. flashing lights , sounds, crawling sensation etc)  I'm not sure why you got the MRI of the head unless your EEG confirmed a focal abnormality or MS is suspected.

Paresthesia may be caused by disorders that affect a person's central nervous system, such as transient ischemic attacks or strokes, encephalitis, multiple sclerosis, or transverse myelitis. Vascular lesions or tumors pressing against a person's spinal cord or brain may also cause paresthes.

Usually starts lower: Small fiber neuropathy usually starts in the feet. The exception is a patient with Fabry's disease where diffuse neuropathy usually occurs.  The symptoms include abnormal sensation, unpleasant sensation and deceased sensitivity to pain.  This can lead decreased recognition of wounds or injury.

Neurologist: The brain lesion may well be causing these symptoms on the opposite side of the body. You should be reporting these symptoms to your neurologist or neurosurgeon so that prompt treatment,if needed, can prevent further brain damage or seizures.

: Would begin by seeing a dermatologist for thorough exam along with a detailed history. Sometimes appropriate blood tests might be needed along with a skin bx should any lesions be present. After a dx is made, you might require a specific treatment.

Lice?: You could have lice. Get a lice comb and have someone help you to examine for lice eggs and the lice themselves. A dry scalp can also cause itching that can give sensation of something crawling. Have someone help you look!
