my daughter is a year old. she has red pustual bumps on her head mostly on the top and in the middle. at first we thought it was cradle cap it isnt.

Like this? : Seborrheic dermatitis ("cradle cap") can spread to the face, eyelashes ; behind ears. It can be treated by using z-tar or other anti-dandruff shampoo. Lather up a fingertip's worth, shampoo ; rinse thoroughly. If the scalp is red for more than a few moments, discontinue use. If it looks infected or is very itchy, see her pediatrician for other treatments (miconazole or mild hc creams).

Maybe: Much of cradle cap is due to retained skin flakes that are not susceptible to the mild ingredients in "tear free" baby shampoos. Active washing with a simple dandruff shampoo will often do the trick, as well as avoiding baby oil on the scalp or other treatments.A soft cuticle brush to help scrub in the shampoo helps, but keep it away from the eyes.

No: Tell the adults around you not to bother you.  Cradle cap is not catching - even if you were also a baby.

Gentle removal: Gently remove scales with a baby comb. Avoid rubbing or irritating the area.  Shampoo with a gentle baby shampoo and please see your pediatrician for additional treatment as indicated. Usually with these measures, cradle cap will improve.

Is it the same rash?: Cradle cap can extend down to the face, neck, and chest. There are some non-prescription remedies such as selenium-based shampoos (don't get it in her eyes!), but other treatments require a doctor visit. Either way, be patient - there's no reason why she can't have beautiful baby skin after this clears up.

Lotions/ metabolism: If germ overgrowth is unlikely, the other two issues that come to mind are the things we put on their skin or the odor from the sweat they make. I find some lotions will sour over time & leave a musty smell. Some kids with metabolic issues can have a mouse urine like smell or maple syrup like smell to their sweat.If the lotions or other skin treatments are not an issue i would let your dr know.

Hard to say: GP's may or may not see a large group of kids in their practice &amp; be quite able to handle such issues. Some choose not to see kids before they are verbal, so a paed may be more in tune with your needs.
