It may also be that the depression becomes so severe that the depressed person becomes psychotic. Ptsd folks can have a psychotic depression as well. Brain trauma can cause a psychotic depression as can alzheimers dementia.

Not quite: A psychotic depression can occur in a patient who has bipolar disorder.  People with bipolar i disorder can have marked ups (periods of elation or agitation, heightened energy & impulsivity) and marked downs (severe depression with or without pyschotic features). So the psychotic depression is part of the bipolar disorder. The depression did not 'cause' the bipolar disorder.

It is a : Good mood stabilizer used for a lot if conditions and probably will work. She knows you and your history and reactions to meds. You should trust her.
