See your doctor: Without knowing your medical history and medication use, hard to tell for sure what this is. Best to see your doctor and test whether the white coating on your tongue is thrush, a type of fungal infection. May need treatment for this. It is a long time to be experiencing fatigue and have this coating and cough. Need blood tests and a physical exam to assess reason. Please see your doctor soon.

To doc: This could be strep throat which it is CRUCIAL to treat.  Go to a doc today and get seen. If a rapid strep test is done and negative, make sure you ask them to do a culture.  Rapid tests can have false negatives 10-30% of the time and a Culture should be done to be sure you don't have it.  Feel better soon! The kindest docs will swab with both swabs at once, and send the culture only if rapid neg.

Most likely viral: Could be hand foot and mouth disease (if there are bumps on foot and hands) - which is a virus, or can be cused by other visrues or if he has a sore throat it can be strep.

Possibly: Potential more common causes of red spots on tongue are  oral thrush , B12 deficiency,  acid reflux or oral herpes.  Also, sometimes when we eat spicy or acidic foods,  the papillae on the tongue swell, become red and sensitive.  A dentist can help determine what they are caused by by looking at them.

Viral: If you have been seen by a pediatrician to know that the leukocytes are elevated, that doctor should have explained that the chances are this is a viral infection that will pass on its own. But call the doctor back and ask for more information and a diagnosis.

Normal anatomy.: They most likely are normal anatomy. Get a good friend or family member willing to let you look and using a flashlight, look at that spot in their mouth. It should look similar. If it looks completely different than your red spots, see a dentist and let him/her look.

Possibly normal: Depending on the type, location and size of the red spots they can be almost anything. It could range from normal anatomy, to migratory glossitis (geographic tongue) to sensitivity to certain types of foods or mouth rinses, to something "more". If this persists for a few more days, it could be wise to have your dentist check it out to make sure that they are typical.
