See advice below.: Use saline nose drops and suction the mucus from the nose as often as needed (if he can blow his nose, do that after saline drops). Also, elevate the head of the crib or bed. If your doctor ok's it, use a humidifier in the room during sleep. Cold and cough meds are proven not to help and can cause severe side effects. If these actions don't help enough, he needs to see his doctor.

It  is possible for these symptoms to be related to a bacterial infection that would require antibiotics, however most physicians will advise to wait 24-48 hours before considering prescribing and antibiotic in the absence of any other definitive symptoms that would suggest a bacterial infection. Generally normal: It may take a few weeks for the cilia (lung hair cells) and edema (swelling) to subside.  Over the counter cough suppressants may help.  Increase water intake.  If cough persists more than a few weeks or mucus becomes discolored it&#x27;s time to see your physician.

2 week cough: It may be time to see your physician for antibiotics and maybe a TB test. Two weeks is a long time to cough and not improve with a viral upper respiratory infection.
