i have an 8 month who was a month ago admitted into hospital for bronchiolitis.cough subsided but not gone.worst in morning and evening.what can i do?

Bronchiolitis: Use humidifier, elevate child on two pillows, and try a short course of steroids I.e. 4, 5 mg tablets day one, 3 tabs day 2, two tabs day 3, and one tab day 4

Stop dairy in diet: Milk & dairy products can cause increased mucous. I always recommend my patients discontinue all dairy until they are better. If this stops the problem, they may have to leave it out for good.

Ask your infant's: doctor. They can answer this more appropriately based on their exam of him/her and the specific treatment. It also depends on how long the flight is. You may not be able to give him a neb treatment on the plane. Please give a call to the pediatrician before you go.

Pediatrician : Infants with nasal congestion may have difficulty breathing through their noses. Gently remove mucus with saline, use a cool mist humidifier. If there is a response to inhaled Albuterol, it is useful in opening the airways. Only some infants respond. Please see your acute car Pediatric clinic.

Infant coughs: Yes, post-nasal drip can cause cough in an infant. Certainly bronchiolitis is common in infants, but to diagnose a physical exam needs to be done. This past year, the benefit of nebulizers for bronchiolitis has been called into question. The only way to tell if your child would benefit from bronchodilators is to visit the pediatrician where they can give a trial neb treatment to see if it helps.

Reactive airway: Possible early asthma like symptoms where the baby airways ate spasming cause him to cough or even wheeze. For children, coughing is what they do verses frank wheezing. Cough variant asthma or reactive airway dz. see you pediatrician since he has had bronchitis in the past.

Pediatrician visit: See your child's pediatrician for an allergy referral or an ENT referral who works with allergies. Blood tests for IgE can also be sent by your pediatrician. Daycare? That means more viral infections for your baby. If febrile, not drinking.not urinating, lethargic, to ER or urgent care.

Bronchodilators: Many children with bronchiolitis will respond to bronchodilators such as albuterol.  Occasionally, other medications may be used such as oral steroids, or antibiotics for a secondary pneumonia.
