i sometimes have numbness and pain in the center of my chest. i've been to the er, but all seems well. what's wrong??, could i have costochondritis??

Certainly: It certainly could be costochondritis - stress, viral infections, muscle pulls can all cause this condition and it is very painful at times.  As long as it has been shown that your heart and lungs are normal then I would suggest seeing a chiropractor for treatment.  NSAIDs also are helpful.  It is also possible that you are having esophageal problems - talk to your FP about that as well.

diagnosed w/systemic scleroderma. have shiny, tight skin, joint pain, gi issues, gerd, muscle weakness, numbness in both hands&feet. have costochondritis and it is very painful. is costochondritis a chronic condition? is it a result of scleroderma?

: The condition may be associated with chest wall muscle tightness and inflammation associated with  costochondritis . Discuss local treatment with your specialist. The use of medication is often effective in conjunction with local treatment. Physical therapy is also recommended. Watch for signs of shortness of breath, and a baseline chest image/PFTs should be considered.

could upper endoscopy w/ dilation cause costochondritis. i have had chest/back pain & tingling/cold sensations since i had it 2mths ago. how long last?

Coughing: If you had some violent coughing during the procedure (I am guessing you were sedated and would't necessarily remember. Endoscopy can also cause retching. Coughing or retching violently could strain the cartilage in the chest wall, resulting in costochondritis. the treatment is aspirin or motrin. It can linger on, 6 months would not be surprising.

No: If you have chest pain and dizziness, you should go to the hospital to be evaluated.  Other symptoms are also not likely to be normal Costochondritis symptoms.

: Costochondritis alone should not cause all those described symptoms.

Doubt it, but...: No one symptom definitively indicates a heart attack is or is not in progress (many people make the fatal mistake of waiting out atypical heart pain). In fact, "heart pain" is often indistinguishable from esophageal, pericardial, mediastinal, gastric, &amp; chest wall distress. By the same token, where in your gut you have problems may result in very different sensations. See doctor to be reassured.

Pinched nerve: Nerves exit your spine from the head to the buttock and these nerves correspond to the sensation to different parts of your body. 

The mechanical pressure on the nerve causes the sensation to feel different.  That includes numbness or tingling. 

Also,  there can be chemical irritation to  the nerves by inflammation.  

In cases of peripheral neuropathy,  it can ALS becaused by diabetes, etc.

Many possibilities: Most people get a headache at some time, such as from colds, infections, lack of sleep, too much driving, long hours on the computer, stress at work, etc... Over-the-counter options include Tylenol, Motrin or Advil, Aleve, Excedrin, and their generic brands. A bad or increasing headache; recurrent, persistent, or weird headache; or with other worrisome symptoms needs a doctor's exam.

Accepted Answer

Many Things: Could be anything from muscle spasm to an infectious process to circulatory problems. You need to sort this out with a doctor.

is tingling and numbness after punching a wall normal?

Accepted Answer

No: If it has persisted for over a week then you have injured some nerve in the hand or arm if the tingling is above the wrist.
