what can we use for my 19 year old daughter with eczema above the lips. she overused cortisone creams and now lips are quite thin and problem still the same. what can we do?

Moisturizer: Apply an eczema moisturizer and avoid fragrance in topical creams. Use the moisturizer several times per day. Use the cortisone only twice daily and avoid contact with the lips. Since the eczema is located above the lips, no medication should be applied directly to the lips to avoid this unwanted side effect of using topical cortisone. No immersion in water is suggested.

See an allergist: There are multiple causes for lip swelling. You can continue doing what you are doing but you need to see an allergist asap. If the swelling extends into the tongue or thoat, head to the er immediately. Meanwhile, stop all new medications, supplements and/or make up products.

Yes: For a few days it is not a problem. It is best ot identify cause- irritant from toothpaste, mouthwash, coloring agents, or side effect of drugs. Burt's bees beeswax products are safe for use on lip. Is there any history of reflux or allergy to any creams?

i struggle with really bad eczema on my uper lip just under my nose. the skin is very dry, irritated, flaky and inflammed. i have been to a doctor and i have used so many creams, cortisone creams etc. is there something i can do about it?

Bacterial/fungal : It is possible that this is not actually just eczema, but that the broken skin has been infiltrated with bacteria or yeast causing a localized bacterial or fungal cellulitis. Try an antibacterial ointment first for 3-5 days to see if the area responds. If it does not, try a lotion containing clotrimazole (athletes foot preparations) for an additional 3-5 days. If neither of these help, see a Dr.

Not the best option: Low potency topical steroids like Locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate) lipocream can help with the inflammation around the lips when they are chapped.  They should be used for a short period of time ( a couple days) then transition to a non-steroid option like vaseline petrolatum ointment or aquphor for long term control.  Chronic use of steroids on the lips can lead to permanent side effects.

Cortisone bad 4 lips: Yes it would be bad to use locoid, (hydrocortisone butyrate) a steroid cream containing cortisone, on the lips. The skin on the lips is very thin and sensitive to cortisone's many side effects, so medicated creams should only be used occasionally there. There are many balms made just for chapping, so best to use those instead. If you're in the wilderness and need ideas, butter, cooking oil, vaseline petroleum jelly better.

: Not a good idea to use a cream intended for external use inside your mouth/lip. Best would be to have your sore examined and treated properly. Orajel can be used for temporary pain relief and will be a better alternative to hydrocortisone 1%.

can i apply hc45 hydrocortisone acetate cream 1% (e45) to my face, lips& cuticles? the packaging says not to (on the face) but that's where i need it.

No: Steroid creams can cause pigment changes in the facial skin. You need to discuss treatment options with a dermatologist. It has no benefit anyway for acne or oily skin.
