what type of recovery do i need after i have cortisone injected into my knees?  can i walk around immediately, or should i ice and rest for 24-48hrs?

Plantar fascia tear: Sounds like you've tried a number of non-surgical options to treat the tear in your plantar fascia and now your surgeon is recommend surgery but you're not convinced. If that's the case, go get a 2nd opinion, heck even a 3rd to serve as a tie-breaker if necessary. No need to rush into the operating room.

had cortisone inject in the de quervains tendon in nov 15. fat has dipped in wrist and my veins constantly bulging out my arm and wrist, why is that?

The steroid: might temporarily reduce the fat in the area of the injection! Otherwise your other symptoms are not due to the shot! Ask the Provider who gave you the injection about the prominent veins!

Usually if &gt;50%: If the tear measures over 50% of the width of the tendon your Dr. will most likely recommend surgery. You can try PT but pain can limit the effectiveness.

had cortisone shot injected into shoulder joint which wasn't sterilized. pain & stiffness now & wondering if infected? how would i know? i'm scared :(

Few symptoms: Pain and stiffness could be simply a manifestation of the underlying problem for which the shoulder was injected. The symptoms could also be a reaction to the shot. Joint infections do occur but are rare. The symptoms of infection are joint swelling, warmth, redness, and increased pain. If anything feels worse than before the shot, call the doctor who injected your shoulder.

Half-life 8 hours: It generally takes 8-12 hours for half of the cortisone to be cleared by your body; however, your adrenal function could be suppressed for 2-3 years after a single dose.  I would see your physician and have them test your adrenal function - and (perhaps) see if the same issue that lead to your treatment with a cs is still present.

Calms inflammation.: Nobody uses cortisone anymore unless you are a horse.  Everyone knows what it is though so we usually call steroid injections "cortisone".  This is essentially equivalent to putting Ibuprofen right at the source of the inflammation.  The inflammatory response is a chain reaction in our body.  Steroid works a bit higher on the sequence of reactions and stops the inflammatory response.

Pain relief: Foot neuromas are usually caused by the trauma of foot bones compressing a nerve to the forefoot and toes. Once formed, they remain. But pain due to a neuroma may subside unless there is associated inflammation around the neuroma. "cortisone" (usually a much more potent synthetic analogue) injected into the areas relieves swelling and thus usually the pain.

Improvement in pain: The cortisone should help decrease swelling an inflammation in your wrist. Typically it takes about 3-4 days for the cortisone to take effect, but it can take 2-3 weeks.
