That : That answer to that question depends on the problem you have with your cornea.  For such a small structure in your body, your cornea is very complex.  In general, is the problem with fluid in the cornea or scarring?

Coats disease: Coats disease is a disease of the retina- back of the eye.  The news you mentioned was about cornea transplants with pig eyes. The cornea is on top of the pupil on the outside of the eye.  So cornea transplant will not help coats disease.

Fuchs: Fuchs is a disease of the inner layer of the cornea.  In some pts, this layer fails over time and the cornea can become swollen.  When the cornea is swollen, the patient can experience vision loss.  Additionally, some patient's with Fuchs' get a plaque or membrane in their central corneal causing vision decline.  In these instances, surgery such as DSEK (partial corneal transplantation) is helpful

DSAEK : Dsaek is a way to transplant just the posterior (backside) of the cornea as opposed to the whole central cornea in a true corneal transplant.  The advantage, if your father is a candidate, is that the healing is dramatically faster (month as opposed to 6 or more months) and his original amount of glasses correction will not be significantly altered.   It is the way to go if he is a candidate.  Have an evaluation by a qualified cornea specialist.

Check if needed: Not sure what you mean.  The results of corneal transplant for keratoconus are excellent with very little rejection reported.  If your disease is very advanced, and visual correction is limited by glasses, usually contact lenses, then a transplant can restore the best vision.  Today, there are methods to transplant less tissue with excellent results.  Feel good about the procedure if you need it.

Corneal arcus: You are seeing a deposit of lipid at the edge of the cornea where the encircling blood vessels end and the clear cornea begins.  This is called corneal arcus.  It is not inside the eye - not on the iris or pupil.  It is common, benign, and  not treatable anyway.

Old scar: If actually on the surface of the cornea, it could be an old scar from a foreign body or an infection.  Are you sure it is on the cornea, as white spots can appear on the iris which may look in the mirror as if it was on the cornea.

Yes - you can: Corneas can be scratched from trauma, such as with an finger nail or any foreign object.  If you suspect a scratched cornea, you should be seen by an eye care professional and examined.  Treatments can include topical antibiotics and even a bandage contact lens.  But you should see your eye doctor to determine if you have a scratched cornea (corneal abrasion).

Corneal scar: In the absence of any visual symptoms or pain, a white spot on your cornea is typically nothing to worry about.  It could be from previous injury or infection or merely aging changes of the cornea.  You should see your ophthalmologist to determine the cause and if any treatment is needed.

It's stiff: The cornea is stiff.   It wouldn't work very well to focus the light if it did not hold its shape.
