There&#x27;s no magic: about It and it isn&#x27;t an unattainable goal. It will take time, perseverance and a lot of practice with the help of a therapist. It&#x27;s easier to act yourself into a new way of thinking than to think yourself into a new way of acting. &amp;#40;I didn&#x27;t make that up, but it&#x27;s great wisdom.&amp;#41;

Breathe: If you can find a quiet place - do so. Breath in slowly ; deeply through your nostrils. Fill your lungs with air (but not to the point of discomfort). Hold for a count of five then slowly begin to exhale through an open mouth. Repeat at least 12 times, longer if you need to.

Sometimes: Low vision rehab is variable from place to place.  It is clear that a person must be okay with their vision before any meaningful progress can be made with the rehab process.

Yes, but not by UPS: Good for you! Yes, stay sober for a looong time (maybe a bit of healthy wine/beer will be ok). But those lost years and the abilities/skills won't just come in a delivery truck. You need to develop them and you can. Even if you were older - but you're not. It will be ok. Plants usually catch up if planted late in our garden. Stay on track. Good luck.

Now.: When particularly stressed or challenged it is  common to default back to an old coping mechanism. In this case, cutting is being used to cope. It is time to get back on the horse and ride now. Get help now to get back onto the track of using healthier ways to cope. Recovery is 1 step forward & 2 steps back.

Compassion: This is a mental disease and people who suffer from it are sick.  Loved ones need to be long on patience but firm on limit setting.  Being supportive goes along way.  Families should not subject themseves to physical, sexual, or verbal abuse.  If the patient puts anyone in the family at risk for harm, they may need to be hospitalized or have law enforcement intervene.

I like your question: I often tried to help my bipolar type patients try to find ways to cope. We'd attempt to get a good sense of their usual pattern or rhythm and predict the weeks that were likely to be up or down and plan optional activities with that in mind. Also, if not smoothed out by medication, i urged them to remember that downs would be temporary - to wait it out. No permanent solution to temporary problems.

Slow breathing, c md: Panic attacks un-treated can get a life of their own. See your doctor and get treatment. The best and simplest coping skill is simply controlling your breathing.  Breath in through nose palms up then exhale slowly through pursed lips to count of 10 wile lowering hands palms down slower and slower. It is the slow exhale that lowers Adrenalin and even bp.
