Yes: Hsv infection is not a contraindication to blood donation; most of the population has hsv 1, so that would be very problematic.  The vast majority of the time it is a skin disease, but in the elderly, already sick , or immunosuppressed, it can become invasive and cause things like meningitis or hepatitis, or diffuse disseminated disease - this can be lethal.
