Discuss w ur doctor: Pain at incision after surgery common, but relation to eating more concerning. Discuss w your doctor underlying cause. Avoid less digestible or fermentable foods (see FODMAP reduction) such as broccoli, beans, cabbage and consider blenderizing foods, avoid constipating foods like bananas. Ginger, camomile, mints can soothe. Keep stools soft eg docusate. Happy to consult and review your case

Side Effects: The answer to your questions depends on the side effects you are having. Small bowel resection can affect stool transit time as well as nutrient absorption. Adhesions from any abdominal procedure may be a source of discomfort for some. I suggest you speak to your primary care doc about your symptoms to identify the most likely source of your symptoms. From there you can make a plan.

Seek experienced Drs: If you havent already, seek a colorectal surgeon who has seen and dealt with these complex problems.
Mri's can sometimes identify other branching points or tracts.
If your current symptoms aren't too bad, living with the condition is an option. Seton's can help drain and minimize the baseline state.  
In extreme situations, bowel resections are worth it and do have happy and satisfied patients.

Denervation: Any type of spine or disc surgery can possibly (although rarely) affect motor nerves to the colon. Need to see both a neurologist and a GI physician.

can you get constipation after surgery i had one recently and now i'm really constipated i normally am i bit as my diet is poor i don't drink enough and don't exercise that much but its got alot worse since the surgery it was not a bowel surgery?

: Did you receive a narcotic analgesic for post op pain? If yes, that is the cause. If not, stress could be contribute. Regardless of the precipitating factors, you need to be active, drink plenty for fluid, 1.5 -2 liters/day, eat high fiber foods, taking stool softener daily and take laxative as needed, 2 -3 times/week. Stopping the narcotic analgesic as soon as tolerated.

can surgery cause constipation i had a surgery recently and now have constipation i had it a bit before due to bad diet but now its so much worse the surgery wasn't a bowel surgery either it was a fairly minor one it was about a hour and a half?

: You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

my daughter was born with imperforate anus. she has had corrective surgery, however suffers with chronic constipation and is incontinent due to continuous filling of the rectum. we have tried bowel management. i do not know what to do next.

Find pedi GI doc: Your kid will need to work with a Pedi GI doc and his/her support staff. If incontinence remains an issue they may need to teach her to do scheduled clean outs every morning &amp; wear a diaper during school. Over time some will learn to empty well without an enema, but chronic constipation must be resolved first.

Constipation s/p gb: Likely was hemorrhoids which worsened or developed due to  constipation. But  would call doctor and let them know and evaluate. Could be ileitis , colitis, AVM, polyps as well. Also discuss with doctor diet. usually there is more of a problem with diarrhea after gb. Drink fluids about 2-3 liters/ day water /gator have  to avoid fats &lt; 3 grams /serving. Add fiber.
