Cymbalta (duloxetine): Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a selective norepinephrine-serotonin reuptake inhibitor which sometimes can cause constipation.  If your symptoms correlate with the use of this medication, it could be the culprit.  The best initial treatment of constipation is increased fiber and water in your diet.

Some do, many don't: Lots of meds can cause constipation.  Narcotics routinely do, iron and calcium supplements can; calcium channel blockers (bp/cardiac meds) can; Parkinson's meds, antidepressants (tricyclic more than ssri), sucralfate (ulcer drug), Cholestyramine (cholesterol med), many other prescription and otc drugs.
Check with md if new symptom, med change, worsening, pain, bleed.
Diet, hormones can play a role.

Need more than that: 90 year old will need not just medications , ( any over the outer medication is good ) have to find the cause , make sure no colon cancer , if home bound visit by health care worker to make sure no fecal impaction the most common problem in elderly.

Hard difficult BM: Constipation is a hard, difficult, painful bowel movement. Drinking a lot of water helps but so would more fiber in your diet. The frequency of the bowel movement is not as important as the consistency and pain associated with the bowel movement. A easily passed bm every three days would not be considered constipation by most mds.

I'm : I'm sure you are increasing the fiber in your diet, also make sure you drink plenty of water. You can try an over the counter laxative or stool softener like colace (docusate sodium). If the problem does not resolve soon you can visit your doctor for treatment options or you can try an enema sold in stores (i.e. Fleet enema) use as directed.

Constipation: In addition to drinking adequate amounts of fluids and eating fiber like vegetables,fruits, bran,nuts or taking metamucil, you could take a daily gentle bowel stimulant like senokotS which also contains a stool softener. Follow the instructions.  The phentermine most likely contributes to your constipation.

a laxative once weekly since. cant move
my bowels without.  stop?

No: Don't stop the laxative.  While you are taking the medication you will need the laxative.  You could get in trouble if the constipation gets severe.

Constipation: if your constipation has improved, then you likely have nothing to worry about now. If constipation is frequent, I would increase the amount of fiber in your diet for the long run. Consider a fiber supplement such as Metamucil. If you do, increase your fluid intake also.  You should have a colonoscopy at age 50, or sooner if you have chronic bowel problems The, urine results were fine. Good luck.
