Safer than blindness: If Avastin (bevacizumab) has been advised, it is likely because of the presence of blinding disorder such as macular degeneration.  Although there is risk with drugs injected into the eye, the risk of blindness from not treating is substantially higher.  Discuss your concern with his ophthalmologist.

my md wants me to change from avastin to eylea.  does not eylea have more serious risks-sudden blindness than avastin given that its cost is far more than avastin?  it seems the primary benefit is fewer injections needed over time with same benefit?

Side effects: Profile for Avastin is more serious though, however this is purely judgemental, meaning that your doctor made the choice based on several criteria peculiar to each individual patient,  you can discuss that with the prescriber. A bit of concern: If your eye is red and is different to the previous times when you had the injections, please check with eye doctor as soon as possible as it might indicate an infection, and this in turn muse be taken very seriously

my father 87 has had 5 eye injection for wet eye with drug called avastin .read this drug could cause anemia.could this be why his hemoglobin is at 92?

Not related: The dose of the medication injected into the eye is not a likely cause of anemia. Anemia in an adult male needs to be evaluated to rule out bleeding in the stomach and intestine. Please have a consultation with your father's doctor.

Anti VEGF: Avastin (bevacizumab) is a medication (originally for cancer) that helps prevent new blood vessel growth by inhibiting a certain blood vessel growth factor.  Thus it is commonly used in the eye now to prevent neovascularization and swelling associated with abnormal new leaky blood vessels.
