i have a thyroid nodule being watched last year it was cystic and this year it is now solid. why would a cystic thyroid nodule turn solid into a solid thyroid nodule?

: Assuming the cystic nodule turns into a solid nodule, the indication for biopsy will depend on the characteristics of this solid nodule. You should discuss with the endocrinologist.

i have a right thyroid nodule that is well-circumscribed isoechoic solid nodule with a thin hypoechoic halo and small cystic space 1.71x1.53x1.19cm volume:1.6cc previous was 1.05x1.05x0.78cm vol:0.45cc after 3 yrs. is this high chance of malignant?

: Calculating probability of cancer can be done but we (and your Drs) need to know your family history, if you grew up/live in an endemic goiter part of world, are eating enough iodine, past biopsy results if any results of your radioactive scan.  Get back when you know these things. You are young to have ca unless it runs in your family.  Do thyroid family tree.  Apple does not fall far from tree.

thyroid nodules on ct. us found 10+ nodules, 2 largest about 2.5 cm and are "mixed cystic and solid". dx benign multinodular goiter. followup needed?

Watch it yourself: Get acquainted with how your gland feels. If one of the nodules starts getting appreciably bigger while the rest stay the same, get seen. This may happen but isn't likely. Best wishes.

Thyroidologist: Your thyroidologist, endocrinologist, or thyroid surgeon is best qualified to answer this question. He or she ,who has examined and evaluated you, would sit down with the radiologist who interpreted your ultrasound and determine the best interval between your ultrasound and the next one and whether a needle biopsy is advisable at that time

FNA biopsy: If you have a solid complex should have biopsy , fna a simple as Aspirin with syringe done in office. Thyroid cancers has excellent prognosis, please see your doctor, do not worry.

Unlikely but ask doc: Most of the the thyroid nodules are benign, cystic nodules are even more benign, but sometimes a small focus of cancer could be inside the cyst, to be sure most of the time after fine needle aspiration (fna) will be done by your doctor  send for biopsy ( cytology ) to be sure it is benign..

Yes: Solid nodules carry the risk of being thyroid cancer (although certainly most solid thyroid nodules are not cancer). Because of the risk, you should have a biopsy done (most can be done using a very thin needle while an ultrasound is being done).

Most of them benign: Then is it is good , they  are  very common , filled with fluid. Don't be afraid  most of the time they are benign , but yet need close observation or aspiration with fine needle and analysis of fluid to make sure no tumor growing inside that cyst.
