Both have their: benefits. I have always found zyprexa to have a robust anti-psychotic effect but it  often leads to weight gain &amp; issues with lipids or blood sugar. I tend to select seroquel more often when I am looking for more sedation.

Block dopamine : Each antipsychotic has a slightly different receptor profile, but the one thing they all have in common is Dopamine receptor blockade. Though other factors may play a role, it is commonly accepted that increased Dopamine transmission is a major component for the development of psychosis.

Not specifically: Antipsychotics do very little in terms of treating negative symptoms and some of the side effects of the antipsychotics may resemble negative symptoms, but they do not specifically make the negative symptoms worse and they are very important for treating the positive symptoms.

Depends on psychiati: the answer to this is not one that you can know with certainty.  However, I would trust the psychiatrist who prescribed the meds.  He can give you more of an objective answer that you.  If we get better after taking medication X and then want to stop.  I always ask my patients why do you think u have gotten better?  b/c of the med u take and u don't want ur disease to regress after making progress

Antipsychotics: These are medications used among other things to treat psychosis.  There are two poorly named classes: the typicals, because they used to be typically used, and the atypicals, which are now typically used.  They differ in that the so called atypicals are non-neuroleptics and interact with both serotonin and Dopamine receptos, while the typicals primarily affect dopamin receptors.
