They are helpful.: Antipsychotics can be very helpful for people who suffer from psychosis including hallucinations, delusions and disorganized thoughts. The causes can vary and be temporary or more chronic in nature. Older antipsychotics have neurological side effects including muscle stiffness, rigidity and tremors. Newer ones can cause weight gain, elevated glucose and lipid abnormalities.
