Any age: That is exposed.  There is no age preference.  You have contact at any age, you can catch it.

Psychological impact: Good question. The large majority of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections are mild, with minor or no symptoms. Serious complications can occur, but the biggest problem is often psychological, a sense of contamination and fear of transmission to others, especially for genital herpes. Most people with oral or genital herpes are not seriously affected and live pretty much normal lives.

Not know: Most people who have the herpes virus never know that they have it and can carry it for years before having an out break. The slide that is used in lectures is of an ice berg and the people who know they have it are the top of that ice berg. I delivered a baby who was born infected and neither the mom nor the dad had any idea that they had it.

Intraoral herpes: is very common viral (HSV1) infection. They are a cluster of blisters that first appear clear then become cloudy and appears inside the mouth or  more often outside the mouth on the lips.

Yes: If you have oral sex with HSV-1, this infection can be spread.  I do not know a specific percentage of how often this happens.

Herpes Simplex: 75% of Americans have Herpes Type One. It is spread through viral shedding at the point of infection. Having an outbreak does not correlate in any way with viral shedding. You can be contagious with or without an outbreak and on the other side you can also not be contagious at all during an outbreak. No correlation there.

Very common: Oral herpes is very common.  It is believed that 50% to 80% of adults have the virus, although not everyone who has the virus will experience sores or symptoms.

Common: Herpes simplex virus - 1 (oral herpes) infections are common in the United States. About 68 % of the population are carriers of the virus. This infection is less common on the palate than on the lips. Once it happens, this infection tends to reoccur in the same place. This virus remains lodged and inactive (latent) in the relay houses (ganglion) of the nerve branches acting up two- three times/yr.

No: Herpes gladitorium and small pox only have relation in that both are viruses, but they are of different family of viruses and likely origins.

i was tested positive for herpes two days ago but my partner is negative and my symptoms were more like chancroid,  could that be a misdiagnosis?

Not likely: Chancroid has same presentation as herpes except it causes by bacteria instead of virus like herpes. If your doctor did culture or blood tests then it is not likeky a misdiagnosis.Call and discuss with your doctor aboput your concern.
