Liquid diet: For a procedure on the GI tract, the less food content in the bowel at the time of surgery, the easier for  surgery  to  be performed.  With colostomy and ileostomy the stoma is created on the abdominal wall in the absence of a needed anastomosis so that there is no problem with food products having to cross an early  created anastomosis.   A liquid diet prior to this surgery is helpful.

Not usually: Once you have fully healed, then a regular diet should be fine. Some really stringy foods such as celery can bother some people, and some foods such as asparagus can cause a lot of odors. Everyone has a different tolerance to some foods, and you may need to watch what you eat for a while to see how certain foods may affect you.

Follow advice: Following colostomy closure, i think it's a good practice to avoid very harsh roughage(nuts, popcorn, etc) until your bowel movements return to normal. Otherwise you should expect things to return to normal but it may take a week or two. It's best to follow your surgeon's advice, however.

Calories/protein: In addition to surgical treatment, your physician will add medications to treat the disease. Monitor symptoms and temperature. Drink fluids, eat a healthy diet, and ensure adequate calories and protein in your diet. Please also follow up with your GI specialist and a nutritionist.

Yes: In the presence of a permanent colostomy, especially if the colostomy is in the distal bowel, daily irrigations and wearing a gauze pad can replace the need for a bag.  A colostomy nurse can train to irrigate.  After a while the stoma will not function unless irrigation is employed.

It could be due to disease, infection, cancer, radiation, poor tissues or ill health. If the colon leaked internally at a weak connection, then a serious and potentially life threatening infection can occur. The surgeon has many considerations to make at surgery.

Life goes on: Is it permanent? If so, you will need to make adjustments and expect some inconveniences.  You will be able to do mostly anything.  Work closely with a ostomy nurse from the start.  Support groups are helpful with good tips.

Yes: possible to have custom made truss like device if you can find one who will make it for you Such services are extinct . Current appliances are better made , easy to use ,  for colostomy are very effective will not emit odor , will not fall out  .
