Pain?: Is there pain associated with your bowel movements? The blood could be due to an anal fissure. If there is no pain related the blood could be from a hemorrhoid. Either way it is important to discuss this with your gastrointestinal doctor to find the source of the bleeding.

had c-diff. once cleared, doc did colonoscopy. everything perfect. did notice redness (erythema...no blood) in rectum. did random biopsies. some blood in stool 2 day after. very mild cramping. normal?

labs iron @ 28.0 marked low dr. never said anything had normal cbc in feb. he did start vit. d it was low same time iron was taken ppi for long time and had colonoscopy in past don't see any blood in stool. should i worry? or likely no issue?

See below : The colon is so huge that sometimes the camera doesn't catch a small bleed. Colonoscopies are important to make sure you don't have inflammation in the colon and it rules out serious causes. You might have a blood vessel that bleeds on and off. Or it might be something in the anal area like a crack in the wall causing some bleeding when you wipe. Also the bleed could be from above the colon.

Sometimes: During a colonoscopy, your surgeon or gastroenterologist may have taken biospies or removed polyps.  These will occasionally bleed, and result in blood in your stools.  If the bleeding is associated with significant abdominal pain and cramping, notify your doctor immediately.

Blood in stool: If the colonoscopy is negative and the bleeding is bright red and low volume it is likely hemorrhoidal in origin.  At this early stage usually an anal ointment will help symptoms.

Absolutely...: There are several biologic pathways by which cells grow into cancer--this is particularly true with colon cancer. "interval colon cancers" are defined as presenting relatively soon after a negative colonoscopy exam. This phenomenon is well-defined & well-recognized in the medical literature, distinct from missed or regrowing lesions, & accepted as inevitable despite current screening strategies.

Maybe not colonic...: Evaluation is always appropriate for re-bleeding from the gut. Black stool often means bleeding from upper GI tract; grape jelly stool from small bowel; silver stool from biliary tree; burgundy stool from right colon; red blood from left colon to anal canal. Any accompanying symptoms? Do you take NSAID's, over-use alcohol, smoke tobacco, have other risks (AVM's for example)--lots to consider.

Possible mistake?: ...its a warning sign. May be predictable (e.g. rectal trauma, fissure, hemorrhoids with straining), but evaluation is always appropriate. A rule of thumb (but not absolute): black stool means bleeding comes from upper GI tract; grape jelly stool from small bowel; silver stool from biliary tree; burgundy stool from right colon; red blood from left colon to anus; occult blood is anyone's guess.
