how could someone know if they had peritonitis? are there always symptoms? or should i go to the doctors to check? i experienced bleeding while in bathroom. anal fissure or colon perforation? thanks.

Peritonitis Symtoms: Peritonitis will cause excruciating pain and usually associated with infection in the abdomen. Bleeding can be from hemorrhoids. Anal fissures tend to cause a lot of anal pain.  Doubtful that you have colonic perforation. When you see a doctor, they should find a cause for blood per rectum by simple examination and perhaps colonoscopy.

i had fissures for 7 years...i get pain in my colon, left side - it's like...a dull achy but noticeable pain. are these linked? cancer? im 17 year old

Anal Fissures: Anal fissures do not cause cancer, but a complication can develop known as a fistula.  A cool-rectal surgeon should examine you and see if this is the problem you have developed.

im quite skinny, and i can feel my sigmoid colon is hard most of the time, day or night, could it be a sign of something? im usually constipated, have anal fissures could it all be related somehow..im lost, thanks for help?

: For constipation - You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

dr.please does all bleeding from anus when passing stool mean colon cancer?? could it be haemorrhoids or fissures,i strain due to hard stools.for past months,when i excrete,it drips blood,i adjusted my diet,i now excrete soft stool but still bleed?

Basics: Bright red blood originates from near the outlet.Dark red to purple blood originates from further up. Black stools could be from as high as the stomach.The most common reason for bloody stools as a tear in the outlet from hard or lumpy stools.These reopen easily &amp; can take a while to heal.I would not assume a rare cause is present (cancer) but your doc can sort it out, sometimes with a simple exam

Tear vs tunnel!: Anal fissure is a very painful tear of the sensitive anal lining, while a fistula is an infected tunnel that connects inside  with outside. Often a fissure will heal without surgery, while a fistula usually won't, but get checked if you think you have either if these painful anorectal problems.

Anal fissure: Anal fissures are essentially cracks in the lining of the anal canal that develop due to trauma, most commonly passage of dry hard stool. It is definitely treatable. Many topical medications have been tried with varying success rates. A short surgical procedure called tailored lateral internal sphincerotomy has the best success rates.

Get treatment: Whether it is hemorrhoids or anal fissure, you should get it treated.
Without family history of early age colon cancer, you do not need to worry about that. When you turn 50, get a screening colonoscopy.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

had rectal bleeding for a few weeks 2.5 years ago. no bleeding since. dr said it was likely fissure that healed. would colon cancer continue to bleed?

Colon cancer: Given your age and symptoms your doctor is probably correct. If you are not bleeding and not having symptoms i would not refer you for colonoscopy to evaluate for colon cancer. And yes, colon cancer would continue to bleed and would have caused multiple other symptoms by now.
