It depends: Some cancers grow slowly and others rapidly. At this point we cannot predict what will happen on an individual basis but as we learn more about the biology that day will come.

Depends: Early on there may be no effect. As the disease progresses undiagnosed, you may develop a change in bowels, blood in stool, abdominal pain, weight loss, loss of appetite, lethargy, loss of stamina, bowel obstruction, shortness of breath, anemia, early diagnosis in high risk patients or regular colonoscopies is the best way to avoid all of the above.

Colonoscopy: Colonoscopy is the best screening tool for colon cancer, it gives the option of diagnosing and sometimes treating( by removing the polyps).

Not clear: But, celiac is linked with increased risk of small intestinal cancer and lymphoma.  Colon cancer has has mixed results in studies but probably has no significant increased risk.

Quite Rare: It is relatively rare. This raises the question of a genetic predisposition to this cancer (e.g. Lynch syndrome). The 25yo with the colon cancer should be seen by a genetics counseling team as well for possible genetic testing.

Early to advanced: Stages correlate with extent of spread. Stage 0 or in-situ cancers are confined to the ining of the colon. Stage 1 cancers have spread to the inner wall of the colon; stage 2 cancers have penetrated deeper or through the colon wall. Stage 3 cancers are those which have spread to the lymph nodes while in stage 4 cancer there is spread to other organs such as the liver, lungs, bones, etc.

It varies: Colon cancer can be in the form of a polyp or what is referred to as an apple-core lesion, meaning a circumferential narrowing at a specific site in your colon. The above descriptions refer to what is seen either endoscopically during a colonoscopy or radiologically during a barium enema lower GI series.
