Usually ok: Doctors usually don't give babies any medications, even over-the-counter items, unless there's good benefit. A mom can bring the items to the doctor to check the ingredients, but a little bit of a trusted brand of gas drops and gripe water drops are ok to try. They may or may not help any colicky symptoms. If they don't seem to help, then they shouldn't be used.

Colic: Colic usually begins around three weeks of age andlasts until three months of age it can occur atleast three times a week and lasts for three hours or more. Cause is unknown, although some feel it is a form of migraine. All kindsof treatment have been recommended. I find that swaddling  works well because it soothing and comfortable for the baby.Movement in the form of a swing or walk also helps.

We don't know: Colic is not hereditary...But it can be seen in families. My understanding is that it deals with the immaturity of the digestive system and therefore inability to digest well. Probiotics can help immensely as can gripe water or colic calm or cocyntal. So can craniosacral therapy and or chiropractic. Chinese medicine and homeopathy also work. I have had success with all of them!

Colic: Medications can be given but the question is will they work? Simethacone or Ovol drops can be tried. Gripe water has no proven benefit. General measures of comfort are the 1st line of treatment. All the best. This disappears with gut maturity in 3-4 months.

I never advise it: A light brew of chamomile tea may give you something to do but i can remember no research data showing predictable benefit. Teas have been offered for colic since the first written treatment books for kids in the 1700's & follow the assumption that the gut is somehow upset. Present thought finds  it more a transient behavior/frustration issue.

Fix what you can: Some parents find it helpful to make a list. Checking for specifics night or day reguardless of your level of fatigue.1. Basic needs: hungry, laying in pee, poo or spitup 2. Hot with fever/cold-?Need eval. Or warmer outfit. A lot of fussy babies are simply overly tired & the best you can do is create a good sleeping environment& help them settle. If all fails schedule a visit with you pediatrician.

Waste of time/money: People have assumed that colic was related to the intestines (colon) as far back as the 1700&#x27;s with an original text of pediatric medicine. It has little if anything to do with digestion . If you want to try this, fine, but make sure you have had the kids doc rule out treatable issues like gerd, uti&#x27;s, etc.

Green poo: The poo is colored by bile added during digestion.It starts out dark green and transitions through yellows to brown over time.Green poo just means the material  is moving through faster. If the kid seems to be better on the comfort, stay with it. The feed seldom has anything to do with or help in treating colic. It normally fades at 4 mo when they start to control their movement more.

Sleep drops: You dont tell us what the sleep drops are, but on general principles giving a two month old infant a sedative is a no- no.

Slippery slope: Putting your baby in his own crib, on his back, drowsy but awake, reduces his chance of sids by 50%, &  allows him to learn self-regulation for consolidated sleep between 1-4 mos. If he's in his own room, you're less likely to try to feed when he cries out in light sleep. Breast milk sugar bathing his teeth all night can cause cavities as teeth erupt, so wipe out his mouth before bed by 2-3 months.
